It's been a busy month at My Refuge City and we have some important updates to share with you! Here's a quick peek at what we've been up to throughout the past few weeks...
  • 2 homeless women are now in new homes!
  • Furniture, groceries, dishes, linens, and household supplies were provided for 5 women
  • Assistance with bills, gas, or bus passes provided to 3 woman
  • Provided job referrals to 4 women
  • Provided transportation and referral for one young lady to enter drug rehab
  • 7 new ladies reached out for help through our hotline and outreach nights
  • 2 "Coffee for a Cause" Nights to raise awareness about human trafficking and sexual exploitation

Another huge update this month is that we are now officially "My Refuge City Inc." This is an exciting milestone for our team and our board of directors. After two long months of waiting, we finally received a letter that says My Refuge City is now recognized by the state of NC as a nonprofit organization!

Continue to pray for our legal process to go smoothly as we are still waiting for the determination letter from the IRS giving us approval as a 501c3 tax exempt organization. This application process has been a mountain and it can take months to get approval sometimes, but we are excited that we are nearing the finish line so that we can begin our fundraising efforts to open a home for the treasures we serve.  For those who have been asking when they can begin to make monthly monetary donations, it won't be much longer! We'll keep you posted and we will be adding a link here on the website where you can give directly.

We are also starting plans for some new volunteer opportunities throughout the summer months. Here are some ways you can get involved...
  • Sponsor an ice-cream party or cookout in a high-risk neighborhood
  • Furniture deliveries - If you have a truck and a couple of strong friends, we need your help!
  • Provide a bus pass for one of our girls without transportation
  • Join our new mentor program where we pair you up with a young lady who needs a friend and mentor.
  • Host a coffee with a cause night in your home or at your church
  • Book our team to come share at your church or event
  • Provide treat bags or a meal for our mid-week outreach nights
  • Make toiletry bags for homeless women or go bags for victims of human trafficking
  • Hang posters or tear-off sheets with the hotline information in public bathrooms in gas stations, restaurants, and shopping centers.
  • Host a housewarming shower for one of our girls who is starting over in a new home.

To learn more about ways you can serve or to volunteer for one of these opportunities, email us today at info@myrefugecity.org.

This is an exciting time for this new non-profit and it comes as a much needed time in our local area. There are so many people in our community that need to hear about the efforts of this organization.
