A Safe Place to Stay - Your gift will help us open an emergency safe house in NC.
We hope to provide the first NC triage home for victims of sex trafficking and exploitation. When a victim arrives at our emergency care home, she'll have one-on-one support from compassionate first responders, a cozy place to rest, clean clothes, home cooked meals, and access to crisis counseling. Case workers are busy behind the scenes securing long-term care for the victim, but she has no worries about where she'll go next because she is already in a comfortable, safe place for as long as needed during this waiting period. Your gift will help us open this triage home.
It's an urgent need.
With thousands of sex trafficking victims in the United States, there are only 600 beds available for them after rescue. The existing organizations in NC are struggling to meet needs. Even when they manage to rescue a victim, there is no short-term housing equipped for this type of crisis care. Long-term facilities rarely have openings and if they do, the admissions process can be long and tedious. While they look for an open bed, most organizations move victims to hotels, domestic violence shelters, or local homeless housing - none of which are prepared to deal with this specialized trauma.
Victims who do not receive adequate care in the first 72 hours are far more likely to return to traffickers.
Why Use a Residential Home for Victim Care?
Small residential setting feels more secure and stable to victims in crisis
Institutional settings oftentimes make victims feel trapped, shamed, and unwanted
Home environment is more conducive to allow privacy for immediate rest, time to process, and one-on-one interaction with case workers to best match victim with appropriate next step care.
More easily tailored to those with disabilities
Far more nurturing for children and teens
Small home setting is more discreet in the community
Less risk for infiltration, unhealthy relationships between victims, etc.
She is someone's daughter, someone's sister, someone's friend. She deserves a home.
